Francisco is a Lecturer in Computational Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of Swansea University and was appointed as a researcher affiliated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Before joining Swansea University, Francisco was a Research Scientist (2016-2019) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2014-2016) at the Laboratory for Atomistic and Molecular Mechanics (LAMM) of MIT, and a postdoctoral associate (2011-2013) at the Quantum Chemistry Group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). He directs the «Martin-Martinez LAB», where he leads an interdisciplinary and multicultural research group focused on Nature-inspired computational materials. Because of his research and expertise, he has worked on projects funded by NASA, NIH, NSF, ONR, AFRL, and XSEDE and has been involved in several collaborations with industry partners including BASF, Ferrovial, Arauco, and Henkel. Francisco is an advisor on strategic innovation at PODIUM Strategy and Marketing, a strategic consultancy company; co-instructor at Station1 (USA), a start-up on social-driven innovation and education; and scientific advisor at Sweetwater Energy, an integrated biorefinery. Francisco is also a program leader at the University of Cambridge working around Circular Economy. He will be working on extracting carbon from chitin and will conduct ongoing research and commercial support during the scale-up phases.
